Here is Your Invitation to Engage with Scripture Like Never Before!
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN?
Read and Pronounce Greek Words
This course teaches you how to read and pronounce Greek words. You will no longer skip over those funny-looking symbols and mispronounce them based on their transliterations (Greek letters turned into English ones or phonetic spelling). You won’t be able to sit down and read the Greek Bible, but you will know how to pronounce the words. But it is even better than that . . .
Learn the Greek Noun and Verbal Systems
It’s one thing to be able to pronounce words, but as you proceed through this course, you will learn how the main words, the nouns and verbs, operate together. You will even learn how prepositions control the case of their object . . . and precisely what that means. In fact, you will learn all the parts of speech and how they interact with each other. Oh, you won’t be able to figure it out on your own, but that’s where the online sources available today become your best friend. They do all the hard work of parsing the intricate details. Once you know that, you will have a basic understanding of how nouns, verbs, and other parts of the Greek language operate and how they work together. At that point, you will discover many things that those people through whom and to whom the New Testament came understood but can’t be translated easily into English. Trust us . . . that will open your eyes into a whole new realm of “Ah-Ha” moments.
Learn Greek Word Studies Instead of English Word Studies
If you’ve ever done English word studies based on biblical text, you know that many Greek words have multiple meanings and how often many different Greek words are translated by one English word. As you learn to do Greek word studies, the difference will bring you into a more profound and precise meaning of Scripture. Seeing these differences will allow you to be carried along by the Holy Spirit into each word’s original context, grammar, and cultural significance. This will provide a more accurate understanding of Scripture and even more “Ah-Ha” moments that will empower your life and ministry as a fully devoted disciple of Jesus.
Learn the Power of Phrasing
One of the most potent tools that will force you to prayerfully think critically and interact deeply with each text is called “Phrasing.” It involves breaking down passages into their main thoughts and subordinate ideas, laying them out graphically to reveal the structure and flow of each text. This method will help you identify the author’s intent (not necessarily what you want them to be saying), understand the relationship between ideas, and grasp the deeper meaning of each passage. Not only is this “eye-opening,” but it is fun! Oh, yeah. As you get these profound insights, your world may be turned inside out and upside down. But don’t believe us . . . come and learn how to do phrasing and other parts of simple Greek experiencing the reality for yourself.

YOU WILL LEARN EVEN MORE WHILE DEVELOPING FRIENDSHIPS THAT MAY LAST A LIFETIME!
HOW DOES THIS COURSE WORK?
Many aspects of this course will be very different from other Christian Compass Series courses. First, you will not have a live instructor. One of the top Greek scholars today, William D. Mounce, is the developer of this course. Besides his many degrees, he has had a teaching career that includes being head of the Greek language program at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. But don’t let that scare you away. Bill is anything but the “stuffy professor” who talks over your head. He is one of the easiest people to listen to, and his vast experience has allowed him to develop a straightforward approach to this subject that is easy to follow. He is also focused on bringing solid teaching back into the local church. This is one of the reasons he created the “Greek for the Rest of Us” program. You will meet Bill through 26 video lectures. You will also read his book and use his workbook. Your mentor will be Dr. Jim Warren, an adjunct professor at Aidan University and the co-founder and dean of the Advance Kingdom School of Ministry, the sponsor of this course.
Here is the method we will follow together.
- You will listen to each video lecture and take detailed notes on an independent study basis.
- Next, you will read the corresponding chapter in the book “Greek for the Rest of Us” and add your notes from that source to those from the video lectures.
- Then, you will do the workbook exercises based on the video you just watched and the chapter you read.
- Once you finish that, you will send a PDF of your workbook pages and notes to your mentor, Dr. Jim.
NOW, HERE IS WHERE THE POWER OF THE COMPASS SERIES COMES INTO PLAY OVER INDEPENDENT STUDY
- Every two weeks, you will meet for up to two hours with Dr. Jim and the rest of your cohort. This will be done online from the comfort of your home.
- Here, Dr. Jim will share insights into the subject at hand, review some of the lecture slides, share added information, and answer as many questions as possible. However, he will allow the cohort members to help each other as questions are raised. That way, we all grow by becoming part of the learning process. There is power in community often missed by the average Western disciple of Jesus.
- If that isn’t enough, if you are still having problems, Dr. Jim will meet with you individually, online, to help you better understand the Greek language. Hence, you will be afforded every opportunity to succeed so that your faith grows and your life as a fully devoted disciple of Jesus begins to expand His kingdom into the lives of others.
